DuPage Monarch Project Inaugural Internship Program 2027
DuPage Monarch Project – Communities Protecting Pollinators (DMP), a not-for-profit organization in DuPage County, IL, is thrilled to announce our inaugural internship program for 2027.
We have opened 10 unpaid internship positions for the Summer of 2027, running from May 24, 2027 until July 30, 2027. These positions are designed with the understanding that interns may also have paid jobs throughout the 10-week period and the intention is that they could complete both the job and this internship.
- Butterfly and Bee Monitors at the Glen Ellyn Park District (6 interns)
- Graphic Designer / Illustrator (1 intern)
- Journalist/Writer (1 intern)
- Social Media Content Creator (1 intern)
- Videographer (1 intern)
Internship Requirements and Acknowledgements
- DuPage County resident preferred
- Currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university
- Can commit to number of site visits, or number of pieces of content created over the 10-week internship period of 5/24/27 – 7/30/27 (preferred end date for Butterfly and Bee Monitor is August 7, 2027). Note we intentionally did not assign a number of hours per week. We understand that interns may need to work a paid job during the summer, and we have structured these to be able to be completed while working a summer job.
- Butterfly and Bee Monitor Intern should be enrolled in a biological sciences or sustainability major with interest in ecological field studies and not have allergies to bees.
- Graphic Designer / Illustrator Intern must have experience using graphic design software, and have an interest in or experience with scientific topics. If an intern doesn’t have access to graphic design software, a Canva account is available that can be used.
- Journalist/Writer Intern should be enrolled in a journalism or English program/major.
- Social Media Content Creator must have experience posting on Facebook and Instagram, curating appropriate photos and videos and a knowledge of or interest in native plants and pollinators.
- Videographer Intern must have experience in writing scripts for videos, shooting a video and all stages of production including editing of videos. Intern needs access to a camera or cell for recording as well as a microphone.
- Understand that the internship is unpaid
- Upon successful completion of the internship including all requirements and deliverables, the intern will be provided with a letter of recommendation and works completed can be included in their portfolios.
Timeline
- 12/31/2026 Internship application submission due
- 2/12/2027 Interns are notified of their acceptance
- 3/12/2027 Intern commitment to position due
- 5/24/2027 Internship period starts
- 7/30/2027 Internship period ends
